01-WebDriver Overview

Selenium WebDriver is an open source software-testing framework for Web application.

It supports different popular languages like Java, C#, Ruby and Python to write domain specific scripts. As a prototyping tool, Selenium IDE can also provide record and playback support to test an application without theoretically learning scripting language. Selenium is composed of three components (Selenium IDE, Selenium WebDriver, Selenium Grid) into a single suite for different testing objectives. If you would like to read more about each component, visit the SeleniumHQ homepage.

For the purpose of these tutorials, the main focus will be on the latest release of the Selenium WebDriver using the Java programming language, the community edition of IntelliJ IDEA (a Java IDE), the TestNG testing framework and a variety of other tools to support our automation framework.
